Tuesday, 24 October 2023 A group of miners from an unregistered union are holding around 500 of their colleagues underground at a gold mine in South Africa over a union dispute. There have been scuffles and injuries, and conflicting statements about the events. The mine CEO believes the rival union members are holding the others hostage, while the rival union says there is a sit-in protest in support of the union. The National Union of Mineworkers is calling for law enforcement agencies to intervene.
