Iran court orders US to pay damages for 1980 hostage rescue bid

IndiaTimes Thursday, 26 October 2023
An Iranian court has ordered the US government to pay $420 million in compensation to victims of a failed 1980 operation to free hostages held at the US embassy in Tehran. The operation, known as Operation Eagle Claw, ended in disaster after encountering sandstorms and mechanical problems. The judiciary's Mizan Online news agency reported that during the operation, US forces had "attacked" a bus carrying Iranian passengers. This comes after previous multi-billion dollar compensation awards against Tehran by US courts.
