Suspect in attack on Salman Rushdie scheduled for trial in Jan, author expected to testify

The trial for Hadi Matar, the man accused of stabbing author Salman Rushdie, has been scheduled for January 2024. The trial is expected to last for about two weeks, and Rushdie is planned to testify. Rushdie was stabbed multiple times during a lecture, resulting in injuries to his neck, stomach, eye, and chest. He suffered long-term effects, including blindness in one eye. Matar pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder and assault and has maintained his innocence.
