Moldova president says church must work for European integration

IndiaTimes Wednesday, 1 November 2023
Moldova's president, Maia Sandu, has commented on the church row between the country's two rival Orthodox churches, stating that churches should prioritize the country's aim of European integration. Moldova has historically been caught in the struggle between Moscow and Bucharest, with 92% of its residents being Orthodox Christians. The two churches in Moldova are not independent, with one answering to Moscow and the other to Bucharest. Sandu emphasized that the church should align with the interests of the state and its citizens.
