Mexico's ruling party, Morena, has named its candidates for eight governorships and the mayorship of Mexico City. The party's decision to exclude the most popular candidate for the capital has raised concerns about potential desertions. Former capital police chief Omar Garcia Harfuch, who was disqualified due to a gender quota, has expressed his loyalty to the party. Morena has already announced its nominee for the presidential race, former Mexico City mayor Claudia Sheinbaum.
