Russia targets women behind award-winning play

Yelena Efros, the head of a volunteer group writing to political prisoners in Russia, found herself writing a letter to her own daughter, Yevgenia Berkovich, who was jailed for directing an award-winning play. Berkovich and fellow playwright Svetlana Petriychuk were arrested on charges of "justifying terrorism" for their play about Russian women recruited into the Islamic State. The case has raised controversy as the charges are based on a fringe research method called "destructology" that has been dismissed as pseudoscience.
