Harris breaks record for tie-breaking US Senate votes

Vice President Kamala Harris broke the tie in the US Senate, confirming Loren AliKhan as the first South Asian woman judge on the Washington federal district court. AliKhan, a judge from the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, was approved by a close 51-50 vote. Harris, as Senate president, cast the tie-breaking vote. She has surpassed John Calhoun's record by casting her 33rd tie-breaking vote, playing a crucial role in passing key legislation and confirming judicial nominees.
