Senate Republican ends block on most US military nominees

IndiaTimes Wednesday, 6 December 2023
US Senator Tommy Tuberville lifts his hold on military nominations after protesting Pentagon abortion access policies. Tuberville, a Republican from Alabama, still has a hold on 11 four-star generals. President Joe Biden commends the Senate for approving 425 highly-qualified military leaders. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin welcomes the confirmation but urges the lifting of remaining holds. The holds affect officers chosen to lead US Northern Command, Cyber Command, and Space Command. Tuberville's actions delayed the approval process, posing risks to national security and military readiness.
