China sanctions US firm Kharon, provider of research on Xinjiang
Wednesday, 27 December 2023 China's foreign ministry has sanctioned Kharon, a US firm founded by former treasury department officials, and its director of investigations for providing alleged evidence of forced labor in Xinjiang. The ministry stated that it would take 'countermeasures' against Kharon for its role in supporting US sanctions related to Xinjiang. Additionally, a former researcher of the Center for Advanced Defense Studies will also face sanctions. The affected individuals will be banned from entering China, and Kharon's property in China will be frozen.
