IndiaTimes Sunday, 18 February 2024
The recent clashes between M23, the army, and pro-M23 self-defense groups have resulted in mass displacements of communities. South Africa has announced its plan to deploy 2,900 troops as part of the Southern African Development Community's efforts to assist Congo in combating rebel groups. The presence of surface-to-air missile systems was deemed a threat to the safety of civilians, as well as peacekeepers, humanitarian workers, and commercial flights in the region.
