How difficult is a soft landing and what went wrong with India's moon mission

ISRO WAS ATTEMPTING TO SOFT LAND THE CHANDRAYAAN 2 LANDER VIKRAM ON THE MOON WHEN IT LOST CONATCT WITH THE PROBE JUST 2.1 KM ABOVE THE LUNAR SURFACE.

TO EXECUTE A SOFT LANDING ON THE MOON IS ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT MANEUVERS.

THERE HAVE BEEN 38 ATTEMPTS SO FAR TO SOFT LAND AN EARTH MAD EOBJECT ON THE MOON OUT OF WHICH JUST 53% HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL.

THE STAGES OF LANDING ON THE MOON INVOLVE A ROUGH BRAKING PHASE AND A FINE BRAKING PHASE.

THIS IS THE 15 MINUTES OF TERROR THAT THE LANDER WOULD HAVE HAD TO SURVIVE IN ORDER TO MAKE THE MISSION A SUCCESS BUT IT LOST CONTACT WITH EARTH IN THE LAST FEW MOMENTS BEFORE TOUCHDOWN.
