41nbc's rashaad vann has more on how they're helping caregivers by supporting local businesses.

The navicent health foundation came up with the feed the fight initiative after hearing about a woman in washington d.c helping healthcare workers with meals from local businesses.

Perry: when we saw it, we thought, oh my gosh, this is something we can easily replicate in macon, and that kind've how it got started.

The initiative aims to purchase meals from locally-owned restaurants to feed caregivers responding to covid-19.

Perry: we quickly got on the phone and reached out to some local restaurant partners that we know personally, and they were ready to participate according to tarver perry, director of communications of the navicent health foundation, 'feed the fight' not only supports caregivers, but also provides local restaurants immediate financial help.

Perry: when we saw this idea in another location, we thought, gosh this would be great for us to be able to support our local restaurants and everything that's been great about downtown.

Navicent health foundation hopes this will help local restaurants stay afloat until the can fully reopen.

Perry: we had our first delivery yesterday, we had meals being delivered for day shift and night shift, and we hope to continue as long as we can, that all depends on the fund raising efforts, we know how generous the macon community is and how supportive they are with local businesses and so we just thought that this would be a c1 3 b13 great way for people to support not only the healthcare people but also local restaurants
