'Spider-Man' uses daily exercise time to cheer up locked-down kids

A resident in the Manchester suburb of Stockport has started dressing as comic book hero Spider-Man to cheer up children who are stuck indoors due to the coronavirus lockdown.

Jason Baird, a 34-year-old martial art teacher struck upon the idea of donning their Spider-Man outfits while out exercising, which he hope will also raise the spirits of local children.

Swapping the towering skyline of New York for suburban Stockport, a town known for its hat-making heritage, Baird stopped by a primary school on Wednesday and adopted Spider-Man's iconic crouching pose for waving children.

Following his visit to the school, Baird posed for a selfie with a policeman - contrasting with his opposite number in New York who sometimes had a strained relationship with the authorities.
