Amazon May Close All French Warehouses After Court Ruling

According to Business Insider, on Tuesday a French court sided with a French Labor Union, saying that Amazon was not taking precautions to protect its workers against COVID-19.

The court ruled that Amazon limit its to shipping only essential items like medicine, food, and hygiene products.

Amazon will appeal the decision, but said they may close all 6 of their French warehouses.

An Amazon spokesperson said "We're puzzled by the court ruling given the hard evidence brought forward regarding security measures put in place to protect our employees." 74 U.S. warehouses have confirmed COVID-19 cases of the disease, and one warehouse worker died.

Workers in New York and Detroit walked off the job in protest.

Christy Hoffman, General Secretary of the international worker's union UNI Global Union told Business Insider, "Amazon is failing to keep its workers safe — not because it can't —but because it is prioritizing sales over safety, period."
