The Eugene City Council will vote on its proposed budget Monday

Overall the city government will loose value $30 million in revenue from the lack of taxes being collected with people out of work.

They're having a public hearing tommorrow to vote on a proposed budget -- to figure out how to make up for lost revenue.

Kezi nine news reporter connor mccarthy is live outside of city hall in downtown eugene to break down the proposed budget.

And connor i know you spoke with several people in our community today -- where did they say they want the money to be prioritized?

Jillian-- they really want to see money go into social services like cahoots and homeless service programs. however the budget is constrainted this year and the city had to cut over 7 point 5 million dollars from the general fund.

The original proposed budget did not take into account the pandemic.

The new budget projects the city will loose over 30 million dollars in revenue because if people are out of work, they're not paying taxes.

Despite a smaller wallet, the city council does outline any furloughs or layoffs of city employees.

Thousands of dollars are still going to fund programs such as for those effected by the pandemic.

What i would like to see are more services to help with homelessness mental illness in for example cahoots, more funding for them.

Not only cahoots but other like minded organizations.

The agenda for tomorrow's meeting shows over 36-thousand dollars is going to housing programs and construction funds.

As well as over 200 thousand dollars for covid-19 response.

Now the city council is expected to approve the city budget after weeks of adjustment.

There is public comment and that starts tomorrow at 7:30 p-m online.
