After Beirut blast, Chennai shifts ammonium nitrate kept at freight station

After Beirut explosion, authorities in Chennai finally swung into action.

Almost 700 tonnes of ammonium nitrate reportedly transported to Hyderabad.

The 690 tonnes of ammonium nitrate had been seized in 2015.

Around 10 containers were transported and security personnel accompanied the trucks.

The consignment worth Rs 1.8 crore was kept in a Chennai container freight station.

It came into the spotlight after the tragedy in Lebanon's capital city.

In Beirut, 2750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate was stored at the port for years.

Ammonium nitrate is an explosive chemical also used in fertilisers.

It is believed to be the cause of the massive blast which shook Beirut on August 4.

The death toll has crossed 150, over 6000 found injured so far, as per reports.
