A five-year-old leopard trapped near a paddy field was rescued by the forest department in western India's Maharashtra state.

The rescue operation was carried out on August 29 in Khawadkarwadi village in Lanja near Ratnagiri, under the guidance of the Divisional Forest Officer.

The video from the rescue operation shows forest officials cautiously leading a cage towards the trapped leopard.

They attempt driving the leopard out of its entrapment by nudging it by making use of wooden sticks.

In a few attempts the leopard is forced into the cage successfully and the shutter is dropped down.

The whole operation was carried out over a period of an hour.

Upon complete medical examination, it was later released into the wild in Chandoli sanctuary.
