Car rams through protesters in New York's Times Square

This is the shocking moment a car rammed through protesters in Times Square, New York, on Thursday night (September 3).

The Black Lives Matter march was protesting against police brutality when the vehicle emerged on the road in heavy rain shortly after 8 pm.

It appeared to be blocked from moving forwards before accelerating through the crowd of people then speeding away.

Dozens of demonstrators were gathered at the Crossroads of the World point while chanting ''No justice, no peace.'' Onlookers said the car honked repeatedly at the Back Lives Matter protesters before smashing through them.

They then responded by hurling bikes at the vehicle, kicking the bodywork and chasing after it.

Police said in a statement: ''There is an ongoing investigation into an incident in Times Square involving a black Taurus sedan.

"This auto is NOT an NYPD vehicle.''
