Baby elephant rescued after falling into garbage pit in southern India

Forest rangers in India rescued an elephant calf after it fell into a garbage pit in Kothamangalam, Kerala on Tuesday (September 22).

Footage shows the animal struggling at the bottom of the pit as forest rangers and villagers attempt to dig out a path for the elephant with the help of a digger.

After a five-hour rescue operation, the elephant was finally able to walk out of the pit.
