A farmer in South Africa rescues abandoned lambs from nearby fields to raise them until they are strong enough to fend for themselves.

A farmer in South Africa rescues abandoned lambs from nearby fields to raise them until they are strong enough to fend for themselves.

Footage filmed on August 19 shows a herd of lambs drinking from a homemade milk feeder after being rescued by the farmer.

The filmer told Newsflare: "The lambs will be fed milk and taken care of until they are old enough to graze on grass on their own.

"The lambs are abandoned for various reasons.

Often the mother sheep is still too young and then would not be mature enough to raise the lamb and therefore abandon the lamb in the field.

Other reasons would be that the lamb is too weak to keep up when they move around to different areas."
