A laser light show at Victoria Memorial portrayed the life of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose during the celebrations of his 125th birth anniversary. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar witnessed the spectacle. Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off eight trains connecting Gujarat's Statue of Unity in Kevadia with different regions of the country through video conferencing on January 17. Narendra Modi said that for the first time it is happening that several trains are flagged off for reaching one particular city. PM Modi further informed that one of the trains flagged off on January 17 will originate at Puratchi Thalaivar Dr MG Ramachandran Central Railway Station. He further said that it is a pleasant coincidence that January 17 is also observed as birth anniversary of MGR. PM Modi said, "Probably for the first time it is happening that several trains are flagged off for one particular city. Today's event in true sense is defining both Indian Railway's vision and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's mission. One of the trains flagged off for Kevadia today originates at Puratchi Thalaivar Dr MG Ramachandran Central Railway Station. It is a pleasant coincidence that today is the birth anniversary of MGR. His life was dedicated to the service of the poor."
During the flagging off ceremony of 8 trains connecting Gujarat's Statue of Unity in Kevadiya with different regions of the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that this connectivity will help in changing the lives of the tribal community of Kevadiya. PM Modi further said that the rail connectivity will bring new opportunities for job and self-employment. PM Modi said, "This connectivity will be beneficial for tourists coming to see the Statue of Unity but it will also help in changing the lives of the tribal community of Kevadiya. It will bring new opportunities for job and self-employment. This rail line will also connect religious places situated on the banks of Yamuna River. Kevadiya is no longer a small block instead it is emerging as one of the tourist destination."
Ahmedabad-based artist Aejaz Saiyed gave final touch to an artwork featuring United States of America's new President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and Mahatma Gandhi. Through his artwork, Saiyed hopes for the peace and good relations between India and US. Meanwhile, Biden took oath as the 46th President of USA on Jan 20. Harris also took oath as the first female VP of USA.
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on January 19 said that the government has decided to rename the dragon fruit as 'Kamalam' since it resembles to lotus. According to the CM, the word dragon fruit sounded inappropriate and so the Gujarat government has decided the fruit be called Kamalam. "Farmers say it looks like lotus and that is the reason we have renamed it 'Kamalam. So, the Gujarat government has decided to call the fruit Kamalam," said Chief Minister Rupani. Appreciating the government's decision, a shopkeeper in Ahmedabad said, "It's good that the government has decided to rename the fruit as Kamalam. India and China keep fighting. So, it's better to name it as Indian fruit." Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his monthly radio program Mann Ki Baat in July 2019 had praised the farmers of Kutch for the cultivation of dragon fruit so that India can be self-reliant.
During his address in the foundation stone laying ceremony of Ahmedabad and Surat metro rail projects, PM Modi said that the best example to see the work difference between previous governments and current government is the expansion of metro rail network across country. He further said that there was a time when there was no modern thinking regarding metro network and no metro policy. "Best example to see difference between approaches of previous governments' work and work of current government is the expansion of metro rail network across country. Before 2014, only 225 kms of metro line became operational in 10-12 yrs. In last 6 yrs, over 450 kms of metro network became operational. Work is underway on over 1000 kms of metro network in 27 cities across the nation, as of now. There was a time when there was no modern thinking in nation, regarding metro network. There was no metro policy. As a result, there were different kinds of metro in different cities."
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on December 05 took a fresh jibe at Amit Shah and said that Congress MLAs were ashamed of seeing him as Union Home Minister. He also blamed BJP for allegedly trying to topple the state government. "They (BJP) tried to make the government fall in Rajasthan. After meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Steel, Dharmendra Pradhan our MLAs told me that they were ashamed to see Amit Shah as Home Minister. There was a time when Sardar Patel was Home Minister and now it's him. They (BJP) were giving assurance that they have made five different governments fall and this will be the sixth one. BJP has been conspiring like this," said Gehlot.
The seaplane flight services between Statue of Unity in Kevadia and Sabarmati riverfront in Ahmedabad will restart from December 27. Director of Civil Aviation of Gujarat, Captain Ajay Chauhan said, "Hopefully in the upcoming holiday season more bookings will be done."
