4 UK returnees found positive for new strain of COVID in Gujarat
Four United Kingdom (UK) returnees have been found positive for the new strain of coronavirus in Gujarat, informed state Principal Secretary (Health) Jayanti Ravi on January 02 to ANI.
Situation in the country is getting worse day by day amid COVID second wave. Maharashtra reported 67,013 new COVID-19 cases, 62,298 recoveries and 568 deaths in the last 24 hours. While Kerala registered 26,995 new COVID-19 cases, 28 deaths on April 22. States like Karnataka reported 25,795 cases, Tamil Nadu reported 12,652, and Gujarat reports 13,105 fresh COVID cases in last 24 hours.

Gujarat on April 21 registered 12,553 new COVID infections which took the state's total caseload to 4,40,731. State government has accelerated the pace of COVID-19 testing and vaccination. 125 fatalities were reported due to the deadly virus on April 21, taking the death toll of the state to 5, 740. Currently Gujarat has 84,126 active cases. Former Secretary of Ahmedabad Hospitaland Nursing Hospital, Dr. Viren Shah said that the current situation can be controlled if the government imposes lockdown. "It is the need of the hour,"he added.
