Russian authorities reported that at least eight people were injured in Ukrainian attacks in and around the western Russian city of Belgorod. The assaults occurred as the nation commemorated the 79th anniversary of the Soviet Union's triumph over Nazi Germany. Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov of the Belgorod region disclosed on Telegram, "The city of Belgorod and the Belgorod district faced an air attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, resulting in direct hits on residential apartment buildings and vehicles." He further stated, "Preliminary reports indicate eight casualties, including seven adults and one child." An ex-prisoner has been sentenced to an indefinite hospital order for killing an elderly mobility scooter rider. Lee Byer, 45, was psychotic when he stabbed 87-year-old Thomas O’Halloran in Greenford, west London, in August 2022. Mr O’Halloran, originally from County Clare, was well-known in the Greenford community. Byer, who had had a string of convictions, was released from Wormwood Scrubs five days before the killing.
