Tyre Nichols’ funeral to be held in Memphis; US Vice-President Kamala Harris to attend|Oneindia News
On Tuesday, the White House said Vice-President Kamala Harris will attend funeral of Tyre Nichols on Wednesday.
He was the Black man who died three days after Memphis police officers brutally beat him following a traffic stop earlier this month.
As per reports, on Wednesday morning, Nichols will be eulogised by the Reverend Al Sharpton at a service at Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church in Memphis.
On Friday, the former Mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti was officially sworn in as the US Ambassador to India by Vice President Kamala Harris during a ceremonial event here. The US Senate confirmed Garcetti's nomination earlier this month, ending a prolonged suspension of over two years to fill the key diplomatic position.

CNN reports that as an ice storm continues to strike the central U.S., nearly 1,000 flights were canceled and hundreds were delayed on Jan. 31.

700 delays had been reported from Texas to West Virginia by airplane tracker FlightAware. .
Three airports in Texas are experiencing
disruptions, with Dallas Fort-Worth International (DFW) bearing the brunt of the issues.

On January 28, hundreds of demonstrators
took to the streets of Memphis demanding
justice, accountability and police reform.
NBC reports that the protests were driven by newly
released body camera footage showing the brutal
beating of Tyre Nichols at the hands of Memphis police.
Protestors voiced frustration over a long history of police
violence, corruption and the need to disband several
Memphis Police Department (MPD) tactical units.
On January 27, body camera video of police
officers savagely beating Nichols, who died
three days later, was released to the public.
The release of the footage
taken on January 7 sparked
protests across the U.S. .
Mostly peaceful demonstrations took place in a number of cities across the country, including in Atlanta, Boston and Charlotte, North Carolina. .
Five police officers belonging to a police
tactical unit were fired and now face
charges of second-degree murder. .

was also disbanded by the police department.
