This Day in History: The Boston Massacre (Sunday, March 5)
This Day in History:, The Boston Massacre.
March 5, 1770.
A skirmish in front of the Boston Custom House
between British soldiers and angry colonists ended in
violence when the troops opened fire on the crowd.
Three Americans were killed instantly and several
other men eventually died from their injuries.
The incident followed several years of tensions
and violence in colonial Massachusetts.
... partly due to revenue duties imposed on the colonists by
the Townshed Acts passed by British Parliament.
The violence turned colonial sentiment against
the British and King George in the years leading
up to the American Revolution.
John Adams wrote that the "foundation of
American independence was laid" by the massacre
Harvard University lawsuit targets the Trump administration over a federal funding freeze exceeding $2.2 billion. The prestigious institution has taken legal action in Massachusetts federal court, calling the move "unlawful" and an attack on academic independence. Trumpās government alleges campus antisemitism and is pushing universities to meet ideological demands. Harvard argues the funding block is politically motivated and violates the First Amendment. Other elite universities are also under pressure, but none have taken as bold a stance. This legal battle could redefine academic freedom and federal authority in the U.S.

President Donald Trump has signed a series of executive orders repealing key Biden-era energy regulations. These include controversial standards imposed on gas water heaters, household appliances, commercial refrigerators, and walk-in freezers. Backed by Republican lawmakers, the move is framed as a victory for American households and small businesses. Trump stated the repeals will reduce unnecessary burdens, lower energy costs, and return decision-making power to consumers. The orders aim to undo what Trump called last-minute regulations under Biden that hurt everyday Americans and stifled economic freedom in the name of overregulation.
