A 26% decline brings the average bonus closer to what financial employees received prior
to the pandemic, Thomas DiNapoli, New York State Comptroller, via statement.
CNN reports that in 2021, Wall Street
firms had a $42.7 billion bonus pool.
Last year, the pool was at $33.7 billion, marking the biggest decrease since the Great Recession.
The lower bonuses are projected to respectively bring
in $208 million less and $457 million less in city and
state tax revenue compared to the previous year.
While lower bonuses affect income
tax revenues for the state and city, our economic recovery does not depend solely
on Wall Street.
Employment in leisure and hospitality, retail, restaurants and construction must continue to improve
for the city and state to fully recover, Thomas DiNapoli, New York State Comptroller, via statement

Ukraine’s military intelligence (HUR) has confirmed a daring drone strike that destroyed one of Russia’s most advanced radar stations in occupied Crimea. The 98L6 Yenisei radar, crucial to both the S-500 and S-400 air defense systems, was targeted by the elite “Prymary” (Ghosts) division in a precision operation. HUR said the hit dealt a “significant blow” to Moscow’s defensive capabilities on the peninsula.
The strike also damaged a Russian fast assault landing craft and two other radar stations during a wave of coordinated attacks. Crimea, seized by Russia in 2014, has seen escalating Ukrainian strikes since the 2022 full-scale invasion, as Kyiv seeks to Cripple Moscow’s logistics and air defense networks ahead of key offensives. The loss of the Yenisei radar could leave Russian forces more vulnerable to further Ukrainian operations across the Black Sea region.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is urgently rallying European leaders ahead of Donald Trump’s high-stakes meeting with Vladimir Putin. Speaking with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Zelensky warned of “the danger of Russia’s plan” to force Ukraine into discussing the “impossible” — territorial exchanges that would favor Moscow’s future war ambitions.
While Trump is expected to sit down with Putin soon, Zelensky is pushing for maximum coordination with the UK, US, EU, and other allies to secure a “truly lasting peace” and avoid any deal that simply reconfigures the conflict. He also emphasized Ukraine’s progress toward EU membership, warning that Russia has not shifted its stance on ending the war and continues to fuel the fighting.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has rejected any peace deal emerging from the planned Trump-Putin summit in Alaska, warning it would be “stillborn” without Kyiv’s involvement. According to reports, the only reason Putin agreed to meet was Trump’s openness to ceding Ukrainian territory to end the war. Zelensky insists Ukraine will not give land to “occupiers,” criticizing the proposed swaps involving Donbas and Crimea. The White House is reportedly pressuring European allies to accept the plan, while Moscow pushes for concessions that would keep Crimea under Russian control.

Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff has come under fire after reportedly misinterpreting Russian President Vladimir Putin’s ceasefire terms, according to German outlet BILD. Sources say Putin demanded full control of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson while offering only a limited halt to attacks on energy sites and major cities—not a full ceasefire. Witkoff allegedly believed Putin was proposing a withdrawal from Ukrainian territories, a misunderstanding that baffled both European partners and members of Trump’s own team.
High-level calls between U.S. and European officials exposed confusion, internal disagreements, and a lack of unified strategy. With Trump’s Alaska meeting with Putin looming on August 15, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reaffirmed that Ukraine will never surrender its land. The revelations raise concerns about U.S. negotiation credibility, European involvement, and the risks of misreading Moscow’s intentions in the ongoing war.
