The Verge reports that E3 2023 has officially been canceled.

The massive summer show was set to return for the first time since 2019, but the event was called off after top industry names like Nintendo and Microsoft pulled out.

Before the announcement, the event was scheduled to take place June 13 through June 16.

.

However, The Verge reports that there had been some worrying signs for the E3 revival as June has drawn closer.

.

An email sent to employees said that the upcoming event, “simply did not garner the sustained interest necessary to execute it in a way that would showcase the size, strength and impact of our industry.”.

Back in January, IGN reported that Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony had all backed out of the show.

In February, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot suggested that the big gaming industry event might not be happening at all while speaking at a company earnings call.

And while, at the time, Ubisoft said it would attend the show, it later pulled out of the event.

.

Before the event was finally canceled, IGN reported in March that neither Sega nor Tencent would be attending E3 2023.
