Life is slowly returning to normalcy in Manipur districts, which saw relentless violence over the past week.
The northeastern region has seen decades of unrest among ethnic and separatist groups and was rocked once again by ethnic violence after clashes broke out between the Meiteis and tribals over the formerβs demand for inclusion in the Scheduled Tribe category.
The issue has reached the Supreme Court which will hear a batch of pleas on the Manipur situation today.
Overnight, three medium-intensity explosions rocked a bridge in Manipur's Kangpokpi district, causing damage. The blasts occurred close to Sapormeina along National Highway-2, linking Imphal to Dimapur in Nagaland. This incident unfolded just two days prior to the second phase of Lok Sabha elections, scheduled to take place in certain areas of Outer Manipur. According to a security official, the event transpired around 1:15 am near Sapormeina in Kangpokpi district.
