A recent dossier from Indian intelligence agencies reveals the controversial past of Khalistan Tiger Force terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. It suggests that Nijjar, who Canada has portrayed as an innocent religious leader, used threats to become the head of a Sikh temple in Surrey. While Canada has not provided credible evidence linking India to Nijjar's murder, the dossier challenges this narrative. Nijjar was radicalized, received training from Pakistan's ISI, and assumed a leadership role in the KTF, despite having Interpol notices against him. India seeks Canadian action on his multiple FIRs.

India at the 2nd Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, strongly condemned Pakistan's recurring misuse of the forum to propagate unsubstantiated and malicious allegations against India. Petal Gahlot emphasised that member states and international organisations are well aware of Pakistan's strategy, which aimed to divert global attention from its own dismal human rights record. She reiterated India's stance that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of the country, and issues related to these Union Territories are strictly internal matters.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said Canada has shared with India evidence of ''credible allegations'' about the involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar many weeks ago and wants New Delhi to ''commit constructively'' with Ottawa to establish the facts on this serious matter. Tensions flared between India and Canada early this week following Trudeau's explosive allegations of the ''potential'' involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Khalistani extremist Nijjar on his country's soil on June 18 in British Columbia. India had designated Nijjar as a terrorist in 2020.
