Government pledges £500 million to protect Tata steel jobs

Business Secretary Kemi Badenoch announced a £500 million support package for Tata Steel, emphasising its role in preserving skilled jobs in Wales.

Badenoch described the proposal as historic, highlighting its impact on protecting Welsh jobs and promoting the UK steel industry while boosting the national economy.

She said that without the investment “we would probably have seen the end of steel making, certainly in this part of the country, if not in the whole of the UK.” Report by Covellm.

Asylum seeker sentenced to life for revenge terror killing

A Moroccan asylum seeker has been sentenced to life in jail for murder, with a minimum term of 45 years, at Teesside Crown Court. In October last year, 45-year-old Ahmed Alid stabbed Iranian Christian convert Javed Nouri at the house he was sharing with other asylum seekers before looking for more victims in Hartlepool town centre. He then stabbed and killed 70-year-old Terence Carney who was out for his regular early morning walk. Alid told police he had committed his crimes out of “revenge” for Israel killing children in the Palestinian conflict. Report by Jonesia.
