In a statement shared on his Telegram channel, Abu Obaida attributed the loss of contact to the relentless Israeli bombardment endured over the past ten days. He specifically mentioned the absence of communication with a faction tasked with protecting four Israeli captives, including Hersh Goldberg-Polin. Notably, the al-Qassam Brigades had recently released a video message from Hirsch Goldberg-Polin, wherein he appealed to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and government officials to secure the release of captives and consider resigning from their positions.
