After a surprise attack on Israel by Hamas Saturday (October 7) escalated the decades long conflict in the region, US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin on Sunday ordered the USS Gerald R Ford carrier strike group to sail to the Eastern Mediterranean to assist Israel, if the need arose.
Turkey's President Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday criticised the United States for moving a carrier strike group closer to Israel, saying that it would commit "serious massacres" in Gaza.
Israeli warplanes launched a series of new airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, resulting in the deaths of numerous civilians, including children, in the embattled Palestinian enclave. According to reports from medical sources cited by the Palestinian Wafa news agency on Tuesday, 14 individuals were killed in overnight bombings targeting a three-story house owned by the Karaja family, situated south of the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. Tragically, children were among those killed in the strike, which also left several others wounded.
