Palestinians flee fighting between Hamas and Israel, head to southern Gaza

Palestinians flee to the southern part of the Gaza Strip as fighting and bombardment continues in the north which has become the main battle zone between Hamas fighters and the Israeli army.

The warring parties were locked in heavy, close-quarter fighting in Gaza City on 9 November, including a 10-hour battle that Israel said toppled one of the group's strongholds.

The Israeli army says 50,000 people fled northern Gaza on 8 November, adding to the 1.5 million who have already sought safety in the south.
