Islam experienced the fastest growth, adding 347 million to reach 2 billion globally, fueled by high fertility rates and youthful populations. Meanwhile, the religiously unaffiliated rose to 24.2%, driven by secular trends in countries like China, the U.S., and Japan. Demographic shifts suggest Islam could match Christianity by mid-century.
