Pakistan election result: Imran Khan loyalists at top, but may not form government | Oneindia
Vote counting for Pakistan's 12th general elections, held on February 8, has concluded, and the latest results show candidates supported by cricketer-turned-politician and jailed former prime minister Imran Khan's Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has got the most seats of the 266 National Assembly seats that went for polling.
PTI was denied its election symbol, the bat, by the country's Election Commission, and, therefore, it could not contest the polls.
Instead, it was forced to field its candidates as independents.
Three major parties were involved in the fray for Pakistan's 2024 general election: Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Nawaz Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) (PML-N) and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's Pakistan People's Party (PPP).
Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s sons have made an emotional and desperate appeal to U.S President Donald Trump to intervene and secure the jailed leader’s release, stating their father faces psychological torture and politically motivated charges. Breaking break their silence on their father’s prolonged detention in Adiala Jail they accuse the Pakistani state of human rights violations, calling the jail a “death cell.”
