The Chief Executive of Ofgem Jonathan Brearley has stressed the “need for a long term solution” as the industry announces the energy price cap will fall by £238 to £1,690 this spring.

Households on the energy price cap will see a 7% reduction in their average annual payments from 1 July, Ofgem has confirmed. Ofgem's Tim Jarvis urged households on the price cap to "shop around" for savings as there are "better deals out there" despite the reduction in the default tariff. Report by Kennedyl. Household energy bills will drop by 7% from July, the energy regulator Ofgem announced on Friday.
Ofgem's announcement is the first drop in the energy price cap for more than a year. Energy secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh welcomed the announcement, saying: "Bills going down will be a big relief for families who are under pressure with the cost of living. We have to continue the work of getting bills down for good."

Steve Rotheram has paid tribute to "family man" Diogo Jota, who has died in a car accident aged 28 in the Spanish province of Zamora. The mayor of Liverpool City Region shared his "devastation" at the news adding, "it's a loss to football and it's a loss to Liverpool Football Club, but it's an unbelievable loss to his family". Tributes have poured in for Liverpool and Portugal forward Diogo Jota who has died in a car crash in Spain. The 28-year-old and his younger brother André Silva were both killed in the accident on the A-52 motorway in Zamora.
