Israel has firmly rejected Hamas' proposed changes to the Qatari-mediated ceasefire deal, calling them "unacceptable." Despite this, Prime Minister Netanyahu has directed Israel’s negotiating team to proceed to Qatar on Sunday for proximity talks, as part of the ongoing U.S.-brokered effort led by President Donald Trump. The original deal envisions a 60-day ceasefire, release of hostages, and negotiations to end the 21-month-long war. Hamas had earlier described its response as “positive,” signaling openness to immediate talks. However, Israel’s statement indicates a stark gap between the two sides. Trump, who termed the ceasefire proposal as his “final offer,” remains optimistic, though tensions around the edits by Hamas raise serious doubts. The move comes amid intensifying international pressure and rising death tolls in Gaza. The talks in Qatar may be the last viable opportunity to reach a breakthrough—or confirm the collapse of yet another peace effort.TAGS
