What will an independent regulator mean for English football?
English football moved closer to gaining an independent regulator today, as the Football Governance Bill was introduced before Parliament.
The regulator would license clubs in Englandâs top five tiers, and its primary responsibility would be to safeguard the financial sustainability of the menâs professional game.
It would also have the power to resolve the dispute between the Premier League and the English Football League over financial distribution, should the two parties fail to agree a deal.
