Justice Minister Laura Farris has praised a new report by paediatrician Dr Hilary Cass, which calls for gender services for young people to match the standards of other NHS care.
The Cass Review was commissioned by NHS England in 2020 after a rise in the number of patients referred to the NHS who expressed interest in changing their gender.
"Dr Cass has done amazing work identifying and highlighting the voices of the doctors in the area who said they felt under intense pressure to adopt an unquestioning affirmative attitude to any teenager who would come to them," Ms Farris said.

A new report by paediatrician Dr Hilary Cass has found that there is "remarkably weak evidence" to support gender treatments for children. Dr Hilary Cass said poor mental health and social media have had a major impact on gender identity amongst young people. "We've got significant increases in poor mental health amongst young people, particularly amongst girls. Also there are more neurodiverse young people in this cohort," she added. A 14-year-old boy killed in a sword attack as he walked to school has been named as Daniel Anjorin. Tributes have been paid to the teenager who has been described as a "much-loved" pupil and a keen footballer.
