Ismail Haniyeh, head of Hamas's political bureau, was photographed meeting with Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in Tehran on Wednesday.
The photo, released by Khamenei’s office, shows Haniyeh seated on a couch alongside Iran’s acting president, Mohammad Mokhber.
Haniyeh was in Iran to attend the funeral of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who tragically died in a helicopter crash on Sunday along with seven others, including Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
The U.S. and Iran are quietly resuming indirect nuclear talks in Oman, the first serious engagement since the 2015 deal collapsed. Ayatollah Khamenei confirmed the dialogue but expressed deep skepticism, stating, “We are pessimistic about the other side.” President Trump, who dismantled the original deal in his first term, has renewed sanctions and issued fresh warnings of military action if Iran refuses to negotiate.
