Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Kibbutz Nir Oz for the first time since the October 7 Hamas massacre, 636 days after the attack. The kibbutz lost 117 of its 400 residents in the atrocity, and nine remain hostages in Gaza. While the visit included emotional embraces and moments of unity, Netanyahu faced scathing criticism from freed hostages and bereaved families.
Nili Margalit, a nurse once held captive, refused to shake his hand, demanding responsibility and a hostage deal. Other families accused him of political delay, urging him to act before his upcoming White House visit. The emotionally fraught visit included calls for a state commission of inquiry, with survivors insisting the tragedy cannot be brushed aside. Netanyahu promised to bring all hostages home and help rebuild Nir Oz. Analysts view this long-delayed visit as a possible signal of readiness to strike a ceasefire deal.
