Paris Olympics latest: Pitch stormings and Israel national anthem jeering marr opening games
Paris Olympics day one summary and scores.
Argentina-Morocco football game suspended for nearly two hours amid pitch invasions, as Israel's national anthem jeered loudly before Mali clash in Paris.
Chilling new video captures the exact moment an Israeli drone strike destroyed a vehicle on a busy civilian road in Khaldeh, south of Beirut. The targeted attack, which took place amidst regular traffic, resulted in the death of one individual and left three others injured. The incident has sent shockwaves through the region and raised fears of a wider conflict.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) swiftly claimed responsibility for the strike. In a public statement, the IDF claimed it had successfully targeted and eliminated a militant affiliated with Iran’s Quds Force. According to Israeli military sources, the individual killed was deeply involved in smuggling weapons into the region and was actively planning terror attacks against both Israeli civilians and military forces. However, neither Israeli nor Lebanese officials have officially released the name or confirmed the identity of the person killed.
This strike is not an isolated event but the latest in a series of escalating Israeli military actions in Lebanon following the collapse of a ceasefire weeks ago. On July 2, another Israeli airstrike in a civilian zone in Nabatieh injured two people, including a child. Furthermore, Israeli troops recently conducted a raid in the Al-Adisa area, targeting Hezbollah fighters. This pattern of conflict was also seen on June 28, when an Israeli drone strike in Kounine killed three people, including senior Hezbollah leader Hassan Hammoudi. These continuous strikes are fueling a volatile situation on the Israel-Lebanon border.

In its most chilling warning yet, Iran has vowed a far more devastating retaliation against Israel if aggression continues. Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi declared that Iran held back during its June 24 counterattack and did not unleash its full military capabilities. The warning comes after Israel’s June 13 assassination strike on top Iranian military and nuclear figures, followed by U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites. Speaking to Al-Mayadeen, Mousavi accused Israel and its allies of years-long plots against Iran and warned that any further provocation would be met with overwhelming force.

Europe is facing a record-breaking heatwave with unprecedented temperatures sweeping across multiple countries. Paris has closed the top level of the Eiffel Tower due to metal expansion, while Switzerland shut down a nuclear reactor as rivers overheated. France issued red alerts in several regions, and Spain is battling wildfires with fatalities reported. The U.K. logged its second-warmest June since 1884. Experts blame climate change for the worsening crisis, as Europe now warms at twice the global rate. The U.N. warns this extreme heat threatens fundamental rights and demands urgent climate action.
