A Texas Republican Congressman, Brandon Gill, sparked outrage after making a racist remark against Indian-origin New York politician Zohran Mamdani for eating biryani with his hands. Gill reshared a video of Mamdani eating during an interview and wrote, âCivilized people in America donât eat like this. Go back to the Third World.â
The video showed Mamdani discussing taboo topics in U.S. politics while calmly eating. Ironically, Gill is married to Danielle DâSouza, daughter of Indian-American commentator Dinesh DâSouza. Social media erupted, highlighting hypocrisy and sharing photos of Trump eating with his hands. Gill has a history of racist rhetoric, recently posting two contrasting pictures of Los Angeles to argue against immigration. Mamdani, born in Uganda and raised in NYC, was explaining how his worldview on Palestine is shaped by his Third World roots. The comment by Gill has triggered a larger debate on race, culture, and what defines âAmerican values.â
