OPPOSITION WALKS OUT ASFM SITHARAMAN PRESENTS BUDGET
As Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented Budget 2025 in Parliament, massive protests erupted both inside and outside the House.
The opposition created an uproar, raising slogans and disrupting proceedings, demanding accountability over the recent deaths at the Kumbh Mela.
India is set for a major GST overhaul starting September 22, as Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a new two-tier GST rate structure of 5% and 18%.
From soaps to small cars, several common-use items will see revised prices. Sitharaman said the move is part of a broader “structural reform” aimed at strengthening the economy while reducing rates on essentials.
The GST Council’s decision was unanimous, with no state opposing the revision. According to the Finance Minister, the changes focus on the main drivers of the economy while making goods of daily use more affordable for ordinary citizens.
