Ukraine is facing its worst manpower crisis since the start of the war with Russia, with The Telegraph reporting that at least 650,000 fighting-age men have fled the country since 2022. Many others are hiding within Ukraine or bribing officials to avoid conscription. The draft evasion problem is spiraling as Russian forces push forward in Donetsk, with military analysts warning of severe infantry shortages and failing drone operations.
Reports suggest desertions have surged to nearly 400,000, while disturbing videos show Ukrainian draft officers violently detaining men in what locals call “busification.” Even support roles like mechanics and radar operators are being reassigned to frontline combat.
