A fiery object spotted blazing through skies above South Carolina, Georgia, and nearby states on Thursday afternoon has triggered investigations and emergency responses across the region. Multiple fire departments in South Carolina’s Upstate launched searches for a possible meteorite crash site after 12:20 p.m. Witnesses described a bright "fireball in the sky," and in Georgia, one homeowner reported a rock crashed through their roof. Officials are working to determine whether the object was a meteorite — a space rock that survived atmospheric entry — and if it impacted any populated areas.
