Sheikh Hasina Faces War Crimes Charges — 2024 Crackdown Called “Planned Massacre” by Prosecutors

Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has officially been charged with crimes against humanity for her alleged role in the brutal crackdown on student protesters during the 2024 uprising.

Prosecutors accuse Hasina of directly ordering state security forces to carry out coordinated attacks that left over 1,500 dead and 25,000 injured.

With 81 witnesses and encrypted communications cited as evidence, the charges mark a dramatic turn in Bangladesh’s political history.

Hasina resigned in August and fled to India amid mass protests.
