The Krasheninnikov Volcano in Russia’s Far East has erupted for the second time in 24 hours, launching a massive ash plume 4 kilometers into the sky. Following an earlier 6km blast, the rare double eruption has stunned volcanologists and triggered aviation alerts across the Kamchatka Peninsula. Captured on video for the first time in history, this eruption follows a powerful 8.8-magnitude earthquake in the region. Authorities say the surrounding zone is uninhabited — but scientists warn more seismic surprises could follow.

A tragic aviation incident in Russia's Far East has left five people dead after a Russian MI-8 helicopter vanished on July 14. Operated by airline Vzlyot, the aircraft was returning to Magadan after maintenance but crashed near Cape Gadikan in Khabarovsk Krai. Fire-damaged wreckage was discovered on July 16. All onboard—three crew members and two technicians—have been confirmed dead.
The MI-8, a Soviet-designed workhorse, has seen multiple crashes in recent years. Russian authorities are now investigating the cause of this latest disaster as concerns over aviation safety in remote regions grow. Search efforts were hampered by rugged terrain and harsh weather.
Footage from the site shows the devastating aftermath.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, attending the SCO summit in China, strongly criticized the United States and NATO for their growing involvement in the Indo-Pacific region. Lavrov argued that NATO allies seek to expand their influence into the Far East, undermining regional stability. In contrast, Russia, China, and like-minded nations advocate for an “open and free security architecture” for East Asia. His remarks highlight deepening Moscow-Beijing cooperation against Western strategic ambitions in the Asia-Pacific.
