Six Lebanese soldiers were killed on Saturday in a powerful explosion at a Hezbollah weapons depot in Wadi Zibqin, near the Israeli border. The Lebanese army said troops were dismantling munitions from the Iran-backed group’s facility when the blast occurred. The tragedy comes just days after Beirut announced a plan to disarm Hezbollah by year’s end under heavy U.S. pressure, a move strongly opposed by both Hezbollah and Iran.
UN peacekeepers recently uncovered fortified tunnels and large weapons caches in the same area. The incident underscores the volatile climate in southern Lebanon despite last year’s ceasefire with Israel, which mandated that only Lebanese state forces hold arms. Israeli strikes on Hezbollah targets have continued, further inflaming tensions. Investigations are underway into the cause of the deadly blast as leaders mourn the fallen soldiers.

Thousands of Hezbollah supporters took to Lebanon’s streets in a massive show of force, unleashing a roaring sea of vehicles that stretched for miles. Horns blared, flags waved, and convoys snaked through Beirut and beyond, protesting the government’s US-backed plan to Strip the group of its weapons. The demonstration — dominated by Iran-aligned loyalists — sent a defiant message that Hezbollah will not yield its arms, which it calls vital for defending Lebanon against Israel.

Massive explosions rocked western Syria overnight as the Israeli Air Force launched precision strikes on the Brigade 107 headquarters in Zama village, near the Golan Heights. The IDF confirmed it successfully targeted and eliminated senior Hezbollah commander Hossam Qasem Ghorab, who was directing cross-border rocket attacks on Israeli territory. Fireballs and plumes of smoke were seen for kilometers, as the strategic military site was reduced to rubble. With tensions escalating in the region, the Israeli military vows to prevent further terror infiltration from Syria and Lebanon.
