The government needs to identify the actual beneficiaries of the interest subvention scheme provided to export sectors. A detailed study is necessary to determine the effectiveness of the scheme and the product groups that receive the most credit. The Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) suggests excluding certain items susceptible to misuse, like diamonds and gold jewelry. The scheme costs about Rs 3,000 crore on average and is underused despite high export value.
